Fractional Quantum Hall States from Non-commutative Chern–Simons Theory

چکیده
Low energy excitations of fractional quantumHall states are described by Landau–Ginzburg theory of superfluid coupled with a vector potential whose effective action includes a Chern–Simons term. In [1], Susskind suggested that a better description of these states is provided by a non-commutative Chern–Simons theory with gauge group U(1). This idea was refined by Polychronakos [2], who proposed a modified version of this theory, and showed that quantization of the theory naturally leads to quantization of inverse filling fraction and fractional charge of quasihole excitation. We briefly summarize their main ideas.

Solitons in 2+1 Dimensional Non-Commutative Maxwell Chern-Simons Higgs Theories
We find soliton solutions in the 2+1 dimensional non-commutative Maxwell Chern-Simons Higgs theories. In the limit of the Chern-Simons coefficient going to zero, these solutions go over to the previously found solutions in the non-commutative Maxwell Higgs theories. The new solutions may have relevance in the theory of the fractional quantum Hall effect and possibly in string vacua correspondin...
متن کاملThe Quantum Hall Fluid and Non–Commutative Chern Simons Theory
The first part of this paper is a review of the author’s work with S. Bahcall which gave an elementary derivation of the Chern Simons description of the Quantum Hall effect for filling fraction 1/n. The notation has been modernized to conform with standard gauge theory conventions. In the second part arguments are given to support the claim that abelian non– commutative Chern Simons theory at l...

Area non-preserving transformations in the non-commutative plane are introduced with the aim to map the ν = 1 IQHE state on the ν < 1 FQHE states. Using the hydrodynamical description of the quantum Hall fluid it is shown, that these transformations are generated by the vector fields satisfying the Gauss law in the non-commutative Chern-Simons gauge theory and the corresponding field-theory Lag...

Chern-Simons type gauge field is generated by the means of the singular area preserving transformations in the lowest Landau level of electrons forming fractional quantum Hall state. Dynamics is governed by the system of constraints which correspond to the Gauss law in the non-commutative Chern-Simons gauge theory and to the lowest Landau level condition in the picture of composite fermions. Abstract. Area non-preserving transformations in the non-commutative plane are introduced with the aim to map the ν = 1 integer quantum Hall effect (IQHE) state on the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) ν = 1 2p+1 FQHE states. Using the hydrodynamical description of the quantum Hall fluid, it is shown that these transformations are generated by vector fields satisfying the Gauss law in the i...
